Our yard is based in the heart of Kent, providing us with excellent transport links to the areas we cover across Kent, Sussex, and Surrey. Unfortunately, it is currently uneconomical for us to travel beyond these areas.
Mark Scott Arenas bring over 25 years of experience, with close to 150 arenas constructed since our inception in 1999. We are experts in all equestrian and yard facilities, including gallops, roadways, stable base construction, and more – forming a broad portfolio of completed works. Our skilled teams aim to create a safe, first-class working environment suitable for all abilities and most budgets.
We specialise in complete yard complexes featuring stables, lunge pens, walkers, turnout areas, muck stores, and more – all built alongside arenas and gallops on greenfield sites. We also convert redundant farm buildings into flexible, cost-effective facilities.
Client needs and satisfaction are at the heart of our service. A significant proportion of our business comes from word-of-mouth recommendations.
We offer a FREE, no-obligation site visit in most cases, followed by a written estimate. In some instances, an initial FaceTime or Zoom meeting may be appropriate to understand the customer’s expectations. We can then provide guide prices, allowing potential clients to decide whether the cost is within reach. If so, we will arrange for a representative to survey and assess the site, enabling us to produce a detailed written estimate to confirm the guide prices.
We always encourage clients to contact our existing surface users for confirmation of our ability to deliver professional, durable facilities.
FAQs
Anything from 14 days, depending on the size of the arena.
Yes. Our MSA Fibremix surface can be ridden on carefully straight away, subject to our surface conditioning and maintenance schedule.
Alternatively, our pre-mixed waxed surface options are very robust and can also be ridden on immediately after construction.
Every situation is different. Once we know the type of surface and how intensively it’s used, we can make tailored recommendations.
We offer a grooming service using our 750cc quad bike and trailed groomer. Pre-mixed surfaces generally require less maintenance.
Nearly always, the answer is YES. We offer a professional planning service to help you avoid unnecessary delays, frustration, or restrictive council conditions.
Please Note: while councils state an 8-week decision timeline, this is rarely met in practice. Conditions are often attached to approvals and must be satisfied before construction begins. Councils typically allow an additional 8 weeks for this, but it can often take several months before final approval is granted.
Of course. Greater success is likely if you’re confident with form-filling, sourcing maps, and organising necessary surveys—including topographical and environmental assessments.
Try not to get discouraged by council protocols. Planning officers are duty-bound to request supporting information, including environmental reports, to complete your file.
Why Choose Us?
Our experienced teams are led by Mark Scott, who personally oversees all aspects of each project. Unlike some other arena builders, we don’t simply dig a hole and fill it with recycled materials such as road planings, crushed concrete, or brick hardcore. We also avoid using cheap, poorly treated, and insufficiently robust fencing materials, or thin, black woven membranes that are left unsecured and then topped with local silica sand and rubber.
Every element of a Mark Scott Arena is carefully designed and constructed to exacting standards, using only new, reliable, and specifically selected materials.
Our modern, in-house machinery is equipped with the latest laser technology to ensure the most accurate finish possible. Our surveying expertise also allows us to minimise soil disturbance—preserving both the environment and your planning permissions. All works are carried out by our own loyal, qualified, and fully trained staff.
We produce our own economically mixed on-site surfaces, including the refurbishment of existing surfaces, as well as our own factory-prepared surface combinations to suit a wide range of requirements.
Additionally, we have the backing and approval of the Martin Collins brand, ensuring we can supply the highest-quality surface available should your project require it.
Clients often describe us as a friendly, willing, and pleasant team to have on-site.
‘Caveat Emptor’
Let the buyer beware
Cost-cutting, increasing margins, maximising the bottom line—however you phrase it, economic recessions have fostered a culture where price is king.
But how often does this come at the expense of quality?
And how often does cost-cutting trigger a cycle of purchasing and re-purchasing, ultimately leading to increased rather than reduced costs?
At Mark Scott Arenas, we take pride in our unwavering commitment to quality—designing and building products that are fit for purpose and built to last.
By sourcing only the best materials for each project, and through rigorous testing and refinement, we’re able to offer guarantees that only a professional contractor of our calibre can confidently provide.
However, we’re increasingly seeing the original MSA specification—outlined by the customer, architect, or construction manager—being substituted for a ‘more cost-effective’ alternative. In reality, these alternatives often prove far from economical in the long term.
